The New Colombo Plan (NCP) is offering an opportunity for NCP alumni to attend the Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) National Conference 2024, to be held on 11-12 November 2024 in Canberra.

With the theme Facing Fragmentation: Possibilities and Partnerships in a Fragile World, the AIIA National Conference will explore the challenges the world faces in a period of fragmentation. More information on themes and speakers can be found here.

The opportunity

Up to 5 alumni will have the opportunity to attend the AIIA National Conference, Australia’s leading event on Australian foreign policy.

The conference brings together some of Australia’s most prominent international affairs experts, examining new developments in international affairs and the place of Australian foreign policy within them.

The conference regularly draws around 400 attendees, including ambassadors, officials from 12 government departments, engagement by participants from more than 20 of Australia’s most prestigious tertiary education institutions and guests from around 30 countries.

NCP support

The NCP Secretariat will support for successful participants to attend. This will include flights, accommodation, travel insurance and payment of the delegate fee.

Please note: The NCP Secretariat is unable to provide feedback on individual EOIs. Applicants must be based in Australia and available to travel to Canberra between the 10-13 November 2024.

FAQs

  • If you are selected to attend, the NCP Secretariat will support participants with flights, accommodation, travel insurance and payment of the delegate fee, which covers some meals and ground transport between the conference venues and hotel. 

    Incidentals and transportation (including transportation to and from your home airport) outside of the events will be at your own expense and will not be covered by the NCP.  

  • All identifying information, such as gender, access and inclusion information, and home university, is removed before the assessment takes place. Applicants are then assessed against the selection criteria outlined in the application. Depending on the opportunity, additional context may be taken into consideration after the initial scoring, such as host location, round year, or current location, to ensure a diverse cross-section of NCP alumni are represented at opportunities.
